Education and Education System are two Separate but Interrelated Streams:
Nowadays, whenever a discussion is started regarding education, the conversation ends with the quality of education and everyone agrees that the quality of education is declining day by day. In this regard, the accused is sometimes the educational strategy of the government, sometimes the method of education, sometimes the parents and sometimes the teachers.
If the compositional components of education and education system are seen separately, it is found that education and education system are actually two separate but interrelated processes. Education with which the word training is often used (i.e. education and training) revolves around parents, teachers and educational institutions. The education system is made up of the government, educational strategy and teachers, so it would not be wrong to say that these factors are also the reason for the rise and fall of the quality of education.
Teachers are a common part of both education and education system, so no one should hesitate to believe that teachers play the most effective and important role in the quality of education being good or bad. No matter what the educational strategy is, no matter what the education system is, it has to be applied by the teachers. The student has no direct relationship with the education system or with the educational strategy, the education reaches him only through the teachers, that's why the quality of education is the most dependent on the teachers.
We can divide the education system in Pakistan into three stages. First, schools, secondly colleges, thirdly universities - The relationship between teacher and student is established from the first stage i.e. school which gradually becomes more important. A student coming to school is young and his understanding is immature, but his ability to learn and accept influences is certainly high, so the role of teachers is most critical and effective at this time. They are responsible not only for education but also for training.
It is unfortunate for our students that at the initial stage they do not get the education and guidance that can shape their mental development, guide their character and career on the right lines and make them a useful and capable personality. Can help to become The reason for this is not only the lack of schools, because there are a good number of government and non-government schools on the doorstep, it is felt that the behavior of the teachers is not what it should be or what their position requires.
Job security in government schools seems to make them careless rather than diligent. It is true that the facilities available to civil servants in other institutions are lacking. But this does not mean that they should take thirty classes without any interest or sincerity in a beggarly manner, instead of doing their basic duties properly and realizing that they have earned the salary they deserve. done.
In non-government schools, because there is no job security and often young boys and girls also take part-time jobs in these institutions, there is more irresponsible and unprofessional behavior. Another important problem is that teachers today consider it their duty to fulfill the proposed curriculum in one way or the other, while the age at which the student is in school, he wants to know more about it.
The limited knowledge of textbooks often does not satisfy him, but teachers do not have time to guide him properly in this regard. By passing the level exams, he increases, but neither his personal knowledge increases nor does his mind burn.
If the teachers themselves cannot give time, then at least they can guide them to the books from which they can get the required information and satisfy them, but this is also possible only when they are used to study and its importance. I understand It is very bitter but the fact is that the number of trained teachers in schools today is very less, so the students do not get the inspiration from the school level that gives them energy in their educational journey.
It does not form a strong foundation on which to establish the building of knowledge and practice, character and character. In the same environment, there are teachers who understand their importance and have adopted this profession for the promotion of knowledge with integrity, but their number is very small, so their scope of influence is also limited, this is the reason why Whenever the overall situation is assessed, there is hopelessness.
Teacher and student performance is equally important in the second and third stages, i.e. at the college and university level, but since the foundation is laid from the school, the weaknesses that arise at this level will affect the quality of education up to the higher level. Affects. It is a sign of our society that this situation is seen almost everywhere. Bad titles in commercial, industrial or financial gainful institutions and professions are not as painful as professions whose spirit is service ie medicine, law, teaching and social welfare etc.
Teaching and learning is the most important among them, so the complaints are more from the teachers. These behaviors are the result of a specific environment. In fact, the individual or collective behavior of a person sometimes does not express his own nature, but the surrounding environment puts them on a certain path and this environment also affects the situation of educational institutions, the educational system, educational strategy and curriculum. happens.
Even if an attempt is made to understand the education system, a disappointing situation emerges. Even after 75 years of the establishment of Pakistan, we still have not been able to develop our own education system. There are both government and non-government educational institutions in the country. Government schools have primary system while non-government institutions are charging exorbitant fees in the name of Montessori, Kindergarten and American system.
Further, in the secondary and higher secondary schools, there is the government-run Matriculation system, which follows the Board's annual examination system, on the other hand, the Cambridge system, which directly prepares students for the University of London's O and A level examinations. In some schools, both the matriculation and Cambridge courses are offered simultaneously. Taking advantage of this situation, business-minded people have established a successful business of selling education under the guise of promoting education.
If we look at the government's strategy for the primary classes, it shows that the government schools have free education from 1st to 5th and also compulsory (to the extent of statements). After building buildings for these institutions, no responsibility of the government remains? Teachers in these schools who face difficulties. The lack of basic resources within the four walls of the school and the presence of trained teachers, the students are not able to get the right knowledge, looking at all these matters is one of the important duties of the government.
"Curriculum" is as important as education and quality of education. Equally worthless in the eyes of our "official" education pioneers. The current proposed curriculum is not adequate to today's needs at any level. On the contrary, if it is said like this, it will be meaningless that our current curriculum is unable to meet the academic needs of today's students. It is based on outdated and outdated information. Apart from this, the burden of different subjects is put on the children much more than their mental capacity.
In the elementary classes, they only have to study "languages two by two, three by three." Due to non-standard and unbalanced curriculum, students, teachers and parents are all worried. The need is that the entire curriculum should be completely changed at the official level. Unless we change our curriculum, no effort to improve the quality of education will succeed. It will come to many minds that making curriculum is the responsibility of the government.
The education system is also a headache for the government. But are all of us educators, intellectuals, writers and the parents themselves so weak that they cannot draw the attention of the government to the fact that the current education curriculum, especially the entire education system, instead of burning the intellectual abilities of our children? Making it useless.
The seriousness of the problems arising from the current method of education can be estimated from the fact that the matter is not limited to the quality of education, but the anxiety among the students today, as compared to constructive and welfare work, tends towards crime and violence. Their tendency to turn away from moral values, away from their religion, culture and cultural traditions are all the result of this.
The problems faced by the teachers also need attention and their immediate solution is necessary for the improvement of the entire system. Special training opportunities should be provided to them. Trained teachers should be given position according to their experience and ability, facilities and privileges should be provided to them so that their personal problems and problems can be solved, only then they will also be able to perform their duties with interest and integrity.
